Public House

A new cultural space for Birmingham.

A non-profit space for writing, books, and artists film in the city centre.

Working with the founders, Seán Elder and Emma McKinney, from the outset of their crowdfunding drive, for Public House (https://www.public-house.info/)we designed the transformation of an unused shop space into a new space with co-working, a library & an artistic programme of events and talks.

The space hosts both a programme devised by curators, in the form of screenings, discussions and other art events contributing to Birmingham’s visual culture, as well as being an open resource for the city’s creative community, available for hire in a city where a majority of artist-run spaces suffer from a lack of accessibility and public transport links.

We designed constructs and moveable furniture for the space that will enable a multi-functional working zones that can be taken with us to future homes. Timber battens were used to create shelving and display, with polycarbonate back to a welcoming arrival frame to divide front library from rear co-working spaces.

Fabrication off-site and install on site by Dual Works.

These limited editions, journals, monographs, exhibition catalogues and other associated works are available to browse in their library and are for sale on their website. Their future plans include curating artist readings, performances and events.
